Just a House wife, Are We?
I know that I am not the only woman who feels guilty if the house is messy. I don’t feel I can sit and write, or plan my next blog post or adventure, if my home is not how I like it. I realise that some mums can work and play around a messy home but I am just not one of these mums. This week, I watched ‘The Biggest Loser’. I had said that I wasn’t going to watch the show at all this year, but now that the contestants have stopped whinging and whining about exercise, accepted the trainers are there to help them and push…

Our Children are like Butterflies
The other night I attended an information night at our school for the year five class who have started a program to help build resilience in our children. The program is called ‘Friends for Life’. Personally I believe that this program should be adapted to start in the early primary years, as it is a program that helps kids work through anxiety, frustration, fear, feelings of depression and also how to be a friend. Well, ‘how to be a friend’ is more of a side benefit to knowing how to deal with these other issues. I am a true believer in that it takes a number of sources to…

Grandparents!
Recently the Sunrise Weekend show on channel 7 shared James K Flannigan’s letter to his grandchildren. Mr Flannigan’s letter really enriched my life and is very special – so I wanted to share it with my readers. As 2012 comes to a close, and 2013 begins, I felt it appropriate to share. I hope that this letter enriches your lives as it has mine. Happy New Year to all my readers. I sincerely hope that you have a fantastic 2013. On Sept. 3, 2012, James K. Flanagan of West Long Branch, N.J., died unexpectedly of a heart attack. He wrote this letter to his five…

Classes for next year have been proposed!
Yesterday I read the school newsletter and found that while my big girls will be in straight classes next year – year 4 and 5, the admin at the school are bracing us parents early for the prospect of a year 1/2 class and a 2/3 class. Now if you know me, you will know that I am not in favour with this idea. Some may disagree with the way I am thinking, but here it goes. My youngest little girl will be going into year 2 next year, she is one of the youngest in her class, being a late May baby, but if its up to…

Parenting 101 according to Sarah
Today is the first day of term 4, which means that it is the last term for the school year. I so wish we were able to turn back time and re do the holidays. I never feel ready to get back into the school routine…and I always feel that the holidays go far too quickly. I am so not ready to get back into the school routine mode. Have I ever mentioned to you my love of the school holidays? I think that we really need a third week. That’s just my opinion, and I think its funny that I know many mums who will agree…

Oompa Loompa’s live at Kmart Caloundra
I am guilty of lying to my children. I have encouraged them to believe in Santa, the Tooth fairy, the Easter Bunny and Oompa Loompa’s! I made the lie more authentic by creating an email address – not for the Oompa Loompa’s, but the others. However, because i find it hard to swallow that these mysteriously pretend characters get all the praise for our hard work of buying our kids their Christmas presents….Santa and the Easter Bunny have found themselves affected by the GFC. In fact all three of them are having some money woes. Santa and his friends come and leave their wares, but the value of the gifts…

Going on a bear hunt…
This is one of my kids favourite stories of all time… they love the Swishy Swashing! Splash Sploshing! Squelch Squerching! Stumble tripping! Hooo Wooooing! the Tiptoeing! that happens in the story. I love their excited faces as we reach the part of the story when we actually go into the cave and find the bear and have to do the whole adventure in reverse. Do you live your life in the hurried reverse of trying to get home before the bear gets you! In real life the bear may not be the bear itself, it might be ‘getting the kids to school on time’, ‘getting homework done’, ‘it might…

Friday, your on my mind!
This is a short post due to the fact that life is happening in a very fast manner. Its Thursday afternoon and I need to make sure that the kids have completed their homework contracts for the week and that Amy, our eldest, needs to have her project done which is to go to school completed with her tomorrow. It seems that I am co-ordinating this project! I am trying to get Ames to think outside the box and come up with some of her own ways to present her poster on Meagen Nay. Our printer has decided to play up and so I need to email the information…
